Lightyear Frontier Map Resources: Every Ore and Egg
Every Lightyear Frontier resource by region: where to mine iron, nickel, red crystal and yellow crystal, where eggs spawn, and which nodes are worth a stamp.
Resource locations in Lightyear Frontier follow the region design: the starting grassland supplies building materials, Frostpeak Ridge supplies iron and red crystal, and Hexagon Valley supplies copper, nickel and yellow crystal. This page is the lookup table, plus the egg and feather loops that are easy to miss.

Where is every resource?
| Resource | Region | Source | Main use |
|---|---|---|---|
| Wood | Outset Grasslands, Hollow Marsh | Trees | Building, fuel, crafting |
| Plant Fiber | Outset Grasslands | Ground plants | Plant Oil, fabric |
| Stone | Outset Grasslands | Rocks | Building, tools |
| Aluminum | Outset Grasslands | Ore nodes | Early machine parts |
| Iron | Frostpeak Ridge | Ore nodes | Iron Bars, steel |
| Coal | Frostpeak Ridge | Ore nodes | Steel, generators |
| Red Crystal | Frostpeak Ridge | Crystal deposits | Tool and water upgrades |
| Copper | Hexagon Valley | Ore nodes | Wiring, electronics |
| Nickel | Hexagon Valley, eastern grassland | Ore nodes | Mid-tier electronics |
| Yellow Crystal | Hexagon Valley | Crystal deposits | Advanced upgrades |
| Eggs | All regions | Nests, wild birds | Incubator, animals, feathers |
| Feathers | Ranch | Adult Swiftplume | Upgrades, crafting |
If a resource is not on this table, it is either a crafted intermediate (Steel Bar, Red Crystal Dust) or a 1.0 region-specific material that appears in the Codex when you first pick it up.
Where do you find iron and coal?
Both are Frostpeak Ridge resources. Iron and coal nodes cluster on the rocky slopes, often within sight of each other, which is why Frostpeak Ridge is the best second base site for a crafting-focused run.
The recipe that matters: one Iron Bar plus three Coal smelts into one Steel Bar. That ratio makes coal the hidden bottleneck. Do not burn your coal in generators if you are saving for steel; use crop oil for power instead.
The full steel chain is on the steel guide →.
Where do you find nickel?
Nickel appears in two places:
- The eastern side of the Outset Grasslands, near water and sandy edges. This is the earliest nickel you can reach.
- Hexagon Valley, where deposits are more common but the trip is longer.
Nickel is used in mid-tier electronics and several construct upgrades. Mine every node you pass, and use a Mineral Crusher rather than hand-breaking chunks for better yield. The nickel guide → has the deposit-by-deposit route.
Where do you find red crystal?
Red Crystal comes from crystal deposits in Frostpeak Ridge. Small deposits drop one crystal; large deposits drop three Red Crystal Chunks. Grinding one Red Crystal produces two Red Crystal Dust.
Red crystal gates the tool upgrades that make everything else faster: range, lock-on, water-tank capacity and the Seed Shooter's lock-on. If you are short on it, you are probably also short on iron; plan one combined Frostpeak trip. See red crystal →.
Where do you find yellow crystal?
Yellow Crystal is a Hexagon Valley deposit. It is the later-game counterpart to red crystal and appears in advanced upgrades and electronics. The same trip supplies nickel and copper, so treat Hexagon Valley as a three-resource run.
Where do eggs spawn?
Eggs are world spawns, not a single fixed location. They appear in nests and as rare drops from wild birds, and 1.0 made them easier to find. They can appear even before a region is fully restored.
| Egg type | Where | What it hatches |
|---|---|---|
| Swiftplume egg | Outset Grasslands nests | Swiftplume, the feather animal |
| Crystalhoof egg | Frostpeak Ridge | Crystalhoof |
| Stalktail egg | Frostpeak Ridge | Stalktail |
| Crobling egg | Hexagon Valley | Crobling |
| Ratscallion egg | Hexagon Valley | Ratscallion |
The The Egg Came First achievement requires 20 abandoned eggs, so pick up every nest you pass even if you do not need the animal. The A Novice Hatcher achievement requires five hatches.
To hatch an egg, place it in an Incubator and keep the area warm and powered. The animal imprinting and breeding loop opens up through Diane's questline in 1.0.
Where do feathers come from?
Feathers are not a map node. They come from adult Swiftplumes: hatch a Swiftplume egg, raise the animal, and it sheds feathers you can collect. This is the only reliable feather source, and it is why the feather page starts with the egg.
The full loop is on the feathers guide →.
Which nodes are worth a map stamp?
Stamp these:
- A cluster of iron + coal in Frostpeak Ridge.
- A red crystal deposit — they are sparse.
- A nickel node near the eastern grassland.
- An egg nest you cannot reach yet.
- A flat build site with water nearby.
The 1.0 map lets you add text to stamps, so write the resource and the direction, not just a dot. The map overview → covers the scanner and marker systems.
FAQ
Do resource nodes respawn?
Yes. Mined nodes respawn after a respawn timer measured in in-game days. The exact timer varies by node type; a stamped location is worth returning to.
Is there silver in Lightyear Frontier?
Silver is not part of the 1.0 resource set. If a guide lists it, the guide is either using a pre-release name or describing a different game.
What is the rarest resource?
Red Crystal is the scarcest of the core materials because it comes from a small number of Frostpeak Ridge deposits. Nickel is second, mostly because it gates electronics.
Can you get eggs without restoring a region?
Yes. The 1.0 notes specifically mention that eggs can appear before a region is repaired, which makes early exploration worthwhile even in corrupted areas.
